Welcome to the Democratic Party of Sarasota County!
We are currently the fastest growing party in the county and can offer you many exciting and interesting volunteer opportunities and a chance to meet many very nice people. We are the local representatives of the state and national Democratic parties and our mission is to work to elect Democrats to public office.
Our office is staffed entirely by volunteers and is supported by our generous donors.
Please read the summaries below which describe some of the various volunteer activities and provide a sense of the time commitment expected for each. After reading these, please complete our Volunteer Application to indicate your interests. We will endeavor to match your interests and experience with our needs. Our needs are ever-changing and we look forward to having you help us meet them.
- Precinct Work: You may be able to serve as Precinct Captain, block captain, host neighborhood events, knock on doors or place yard signs. You will be trained and time commitments will vary according to your selected role.
- Data Entry: You should be comfortable working on computers. We will train you on our database and you will be updating voter information and producing reports as required. The time commitment is a minimum of two hours on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Telephone: You will be provided with a script and a list of people to be called. Working in HQ we prefer two hour time blocks. Some of this work may allow you to work at home.
- Mailings: These are generally once a month but much more frequently during elections. The mailing team is usually 3 - 5 people and the projects generally do not take more than 3 hours.
- Voter Registration: You will work at a registration table at fairs, festivals, etc. to register new voters or assist with a change of party registration. Time required is usually two hours on an as needed basis.
- Fundraising: Opportunities exist on our Fundraising Committee, working on fundraising events, etc. This is a critical function that requires your dedication. The time commitment will vary with your selected role.
- Special Events: The time commitment will vary with the event.
