Press Release – Republican and Democratic Parties of Sarasota County Jointly Call for Superintendent Todd Bowden’s Removal

SARASOTA, FL (November 11, 2019) — In a historic action, the Republican Party of Sarasota County (RPOSC) and the Sarasota County Democratic Party (SCDP) are jointly calling for the Sarasota County School Board to accept the package that will remove Sarasota County Schools Superintendent Todd Bowden.

The Parties’ leadership believes that Bowden has been divisive and too controversial to be the right person to lead the School District.

Following the mishandling of a sexual harassment complaint against the district’s chief operating officer and a scathing report by an outside investigator, Bowden has lost the support of a majority of the School Board, the teachers’ union and the broader community. This poor leadership risks destroying the trust that was built by previous Superintendents.

The two political parties agree that it is time for Bowden to go, and the proposed package is the best pathway to remove him. We urge the School Board to accept it so the district can move forward.
