Sarasota County is becoming an infamous battleground for the most extreme far-right Republican views metastasizing throughout our country, especially when it comes to public education.
Moms for Liberty, a group cofounded by school board member Bridget Ziegler, disrupts board meetings and refuses to adhere to established rules. This group, which spews angry lies about some of our school board members, represents just a small fraction of the vast majority of satisfied parents in our public schools but have drawn outsized attention to themselves.
The Sarasota County Democratic Party condemns the extreme far-right Republican views of Bridget Ziegler and her husband, county commissioner Christian Ziegler, who do not even send their children to the public schools they claim to value. Their views and actions do nothing but put politics and party over the welfare of our children, our schools, and our community.
This is not who we are as Sarasotans. We are better than that.
We must STOP the school board from turning to the most extreme far-right Republican agenda, which is harming and distracting students and demoralizing our teachers, and whose ultimate aim is the erosion of our public school system – the backbone of any thriving community.
