The Sarasota County Democratic Party (SCDP) “call foul” as Christian Ziegler uses his new role to orchestrate personal vendettas.

On Tuesday, February 21st, Gov. Ron DeSantis, with newly elected Florida Republican Chairman, Christian Ziegler, laid out a list including 14 Florida school board members DeSantis
planned to target in 2024. The list includes Sarasota School Board member Tom Edwards. Edwards is a colleague of Ziegler’s wife, Bridget Ziegler, and a member of the Sarasota County School Board.

“This is an orchestrated attack by Ziegler and DeSantis to remove the single Democrat on the Sarasota County School Board,” stated Daniel Kuether, Chair of the Sarasota County Democratic Party.

DeSantis was joined on Tuesday by Tina Descovich and Tiffany Justice, co-founders of Bridget Ziegler’s conservative activist group Moms for Liberty, only adding to the personal connections
between the Zieglers and this particular inclusionary act.

“Bridget and Christian Ziegler would rather politicize our school boards than focus on the needs of local school children,” added Kuether. “Bridget Ziegler should be ashamed for allowing
politics cloud her ability to run a nonpartisan body of elected officials.” Bridget Ziegler currently serves as chairwoman of the Sarasota County School Board.

Tuesday’s announcement was only the latest in a series of moves by the Florida Republican Party and the DeSantis administration to put public schools at risk through a continual bombardment of politically motivated attacks.
