A native of Sarasota and a proud product of the Sarasota County public school system, Dawnyelle graduated from Sarasota High School and earned a B.S. in Communications from Florida State University. She was part of Leadership Sarasota Class of 2009 and Gulf Coast Leadership Institute Class of 2019, and was a graduate of Florida Institute for Leadership in 2021. She is active in many community organizations, including Rosemary District Association (2021), Rosemary Park Condominium Association (Vice President), Sarasota Black Caucus, Sarasota NAACP Chapter and the Association for the Study of African American Life and History.
