Stevie Freeman-Montes works as part of the Executive Staff Team as the Sustainability Manager for the City of Sarasota. In her role she leads programs to conserve natural resources within city operations and collaborates closely with city planners on resiliency and sustainable development issues. Her past projects include leading the city’s first-ever climate change vulnerability assessment and adaptation plan, facilitating community input for Sarasota’s 100% renewable energy target, and installing a Living Seawall demonstration project. Currently, Stevie is working on issues surrounding plastics pollution, nutrient reduction, community composting, renewable energy, living shorelines and green building. Before joining the City of Sarasota, Stevie worked in local government sustainability in Oregon and served as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer on the island of Yap, Micronesia. Stevie holds a Master’s Degree in Sustainable Development and Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology.
