Environmental Caucus Presents: Brooks Armstrong on Phosphate Mining
08Nov
Join us on Monday Nov. 8th at 7 pm, with featured speaker, Brooks Armstrong, president of People for Protecting Peace River, 3PR, a 501(c)3 organization. He and his wife Nancy live in Hardee County, where phosphate strip is now occurring. They have resided there for 21 years. He has been involved actively in the effort to stop the destruction of phosphate mining and fertilizer production for about 8 years, as the phosphate industry advances southward with new land acquisition and new permit approvals. 3PR’s efforts now focus on Desoto County, where Mosaic hopes to get a permit for an 18,000 acre mine along Horse Creek, a major tributary to the Peace River.
