KINDRA MUNTZ will explain the importance of Single Member Districts, which is on the March 8 Ballot .  Should Sarasota County Commissioners be elected by the entire county, or by the residents in the district they represent?  This issue was on the ballot in 2018 & nearly 60 percent of voters voted in favor of creating single-member districts—that is, commissioners are chosen only by the voters in the district in which they reside, similar to how Congress is elected.  But now, the Sarasota County Commission would like a do-over & unanimously voted to put a measure on the county’s March 8 special election ballot that revisits the issue.

Kindra formed the Sarasota Alliance for Fair Elections (SAFE) in 2006.  They are a nonpartisan, nonprofit grassroots organization that promotes fair and verifiable election practices.  They led the campaign for Single Member Districts in Sarasota County in 2018.

LAUREN KURNOV, candidate in the August Sarasota County School Board Election,  will talk about the importance of voting on the continuance of the School Millage tax & also discuss the School Board and the structure and system of the voting process.

Lauren is a native of Sarasota, has a Doctorate of Education and two children in our school system.  She has worked the last 13 years creating pathways for post-graduation student success both at University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee and New College.
