JOHANNES WERNER grew up in Freiburg, an economically thriving city that also happens to be a hotspot of anti-nuke resistance and Germany’s solar capital. Freiburg went through an energy transition as early as the 1990s and is on track to be 100% renewable soon. A resident of Sarasota since 1996, Werner is one of the initiators of the Suncoast Clean Jobs Coalition.
Presentation: The American Jobs Plan — a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Sarasota With his “American Jobs Plan”, President Joe Biden created an ambitious program to tackle climate change and create well-paying jobs at the same time. As much of Biden’s plan is winding its way through Congress — in part through the bipartisan infrastructure bill, in part through the budget reconciliation process — it becomes increasingly likely we in Sarasota will see billion-dollar opportunities to reshape transportation, our water and sewage systems, the way we generate and consume electricity, and the way we get Internet access. Time to start telling local voters about this, time to plan and advocate!
