Not only is Rep. Eskamani the first Iranian American to serve in the Florida State House and a Democrat who at 28 flipped a Republican seat, but she is most importantly a clarion voice for the people in this currently Republican dominated legislature.
With a new generation of leaders like Ms. Eskamani, Florida can have a much brighter future. She moved quickly to introduce legislation to fix Florida’s broken unemployment system, which became all the more glaring as the COVID pandemic unfolded. She also had her staff offer immediate assistance to help unemployed Floridians statewide get their benefits. On the environmental front Rep. Eskamani has brought forward important legislation to reign in our outsized carbon footprint, prevent oil and fossil fuel drilling and exploration, and to set renewable energy requirements for the Sunshine State.
