JON THAXTON will speak on the Historical Win for Sarasota as it creates 700 affordable housing units. Jon is V.P. of Community Investment for the Gulf Coast Community Foundation and collaborates with government and other non-profits to solve the housing needs of our community. His broad knowledge of our community comes from being a fifth-generation Sarasotan and having served as a Sarasota County Commissioner for 12 years.

Jon creates and implements Gulf Coast Community Foundation’s key strategies for transforming our region’s nonprofit community and providing leadership on emerging issues such as creation of a system of care for homeless children and families, and housing and support for unaccompanied homeless youth and chronically homeless adults. Jon is also recognized throughout Florida as a leading advocate for protecting the natural environment. In 1996 he was featured in National Geographic for his efforts to protect endangered species including Sarasota’s rare Scrub Jay.
