Stand Up For Our Veterans!

Let’s show up for Veterans! Did you know Sarasota County has double the state average of veterans per capita with 14.36% of the county being vets? We will be at the parade’s concluding ceremony with our banner and let’s make some signs that show Dems of Sarasota County… Salutes our Veterans, Loves our Veterans, Thanks our Veterans!

The Democratic Women’s Club of Sarasota County will convene around our banner at the reviewing stand at 11 am. Signs are being created and people are welcome to join with signs of their own to show our remembrance of the fallen and those who gave of themselves in their service to our country.

The 2017 Sarasota Memorial Day Parade honoring our fallen brothers and sisters will also pay a special tribute to the Battle of Midway Veterans as the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Midway will be recognized.

The Parade will be led by the City of Sarasota Police Color Guard, the Sarasota Sheriff’s Color Guard, and the Sarasota County Fire Department Color Guard, the Florida Fire Service, and Vets on Bikes. The Sarasota Military Academy, Sarasota High School, Riverview High School, Booker High School, and the Sarasota Academy of the Arts will march in the parade along with numerous Veterans groups such as the VFW, Vets on Bikes, National Guard, American Legion, Viet Nam Veterans, SRQ Veterans, DAV, Pearl Harbor Survivors, Ex-POW’s, Navy League, and Vet Center.

The parade begins at 10 a.m. in downtown Sarasota and marches from Osprey and Main to the Rev. J.D. Hamel Park at Main and Gulf Stream. There Jim D’Angelo, M.D., a nationally recognized Battle of Midway scholar, will be the featured speaker during the Memorial Ceremony at the conclusion of the parade at 11:00 a.m.

The Sarasota Academy of the Arts will provide singers for the National Anthem and God Bless America along with a patriotic medley and the Sarasota Military Academy will provide pipers and buglers for the concluding ceremonies.
