TRAINING: How to Write a Letter to the Editor that Gets Published

This workshop will be led by Barbara Katz and F. Lowell Curtis. Barbara is a graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and was a reporter and editor for 15 years before becoming a lawyer. F. Lowell Curtis was the publisher of five Chronicle Newspapers in Northern Virginia from 2001 – 2011 and won several awards from the Virginia Press Association for his editorials.

TOPICS WILL INCLUDE: timing, focus, how to express an opinion, and facts to support opinions. The discussion will be illustrated with examples of published letters. These issues are common for a letter submitted to any paper.

The Sarasota Herald Tribune’s general Letter to Editor’s policy and its specific requirements will also be discussed.
