Our June meeting, co – sponsored by the Environmental Caucus and the Manasota Young Democrats, features our guest speaker, REBEKAH JONES. She fought back against Gov. Ron DeSantis’ misleading COVID-19 reporting in 2020, cementing her place in history as the Florida COVID-19 Whistleblower and internationally-acclaimed science advocate. Her efforts to independently track COVID-19, both in the state of Florida and in schools nation-wide, earned her international acclaim.
Also invited to speak are two candidates for County Commission District 2, Mike Cosentino and Hagen Brody.
Now the presumptive Democratic nominee for Florida’s 1st Congressional District, Jones leads GOP-incumbent and alleged sex-trafficker Matt Gaetz in the polls, flipping an R+22 district seat not held by Democrats in 30 years. Her focus on data-driven strategy and “real people problems” should serve as an example for Democratic candidates running in conservative districts across the country.
Rebekah was named one of Fortune’s 40 Under 40, one of Elemental’s 50 Experts to Trust, Whistleblower of the Year, the Samuel Lawrence Prize, Forbes’ first-ever Technology Person of the Year, a nominee for the prestigious John Maddox prize awarded by Nature, and she even became a CosmoGirl.
