The Senior Caucus held an exciting Candidate Kick Off night on Thursday, January 29th at the Mellow Mushroom restaurant in Sarasota. The event was sold out.
Here’s a brief summary of the meeting and links to upcoming events.
A huge thank you to our Democratic Party Chair, David Dean, Senior Caucus President John Hervig, and to all of our incredible candidates and their dedicated staff for making this event such a successful and energizing campaign kickoff!
Running for office is a tremendous commitment, and we deeply appreciate the time, expertise, and passion each of you brings to this work. Thank you all so very much. Each candidate addressed the group and then spent time mingling and speaking one-on-one with attendees, making the evening both informative and personal!
Florida Congressional District 17 - Candidates – winner to run against Greg Steube.Two candidates are running in the August 18th Democratic primary, Matthew Montavon and Alan Spence. All registered Democrats in District 17 can vote in this race. The winner of the primary will run against Republican Rep. Greg Steube in November. Please support the Democrat of your choice to turn FL 17 BLUE!
City of Sarasota Commission - Two At-Large SeatsThere are two At-Large Seats open on the Sarasota City Commission this year. At-Large Commissioners can live anywhere in the City of Sarasota. All City of Sarasota voters can vote in this election. The two Democrats running in this August 18 runoff election are Jen Ahern-Koch and Flo Entler. They are not running against each other.
Several well financed high profile Republicans are also on the ballot. This race is a runoff, with the final race taking place on November 3. No matter where you live in Sarasota County, please support both Jen and Flo. Let’s keep the City of Sarasota the stronghold of Democratic leadership it has proudly been for years!

Sarasota County School Board, Districts 1, 4, and 5
There are three seats open on the Sarasota County School Board this year. Jimmy Glover is the Democratic candidate running for the District 1 seat. Megan Tennimon is the Independent candidate running for the District 4 seat. Beth Mayfair is the Democratic candidate running for the District 5 seat.
All Sarasota County voters can vote in each of these races on the August 18 ballot - this election will decide the future of our A rated School System. Well-funded, well-organized Republicans are also running and the stakes could not be higher. We have three exceptional candidates, and every seat is within our reach.
If we are unified and work smartly, we can win all three races and take back control of the School Board. Just imagine the first School Board meeting without the likes of Bridget Ziegler, Robyn Marinelli, and Karen Rose!
