MIRACLE on the Key

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

We are 11 Republicans, Democrats and Independents and we call our group “The Miracle on the Key” (MOK).

Why is it a miracle? We believe we can find common ground on issues that are important, but unfortunately partisan politics often clouds sound thinking. We have worked on and produced written issues concerning immigration, education and term limits for Congress.

These are just some of the issues that we have dealt with over the past five years.

Today we are deeply concerned about the very serious shortage of affordable and workforce housing in Sarasota and Longboat Key. The housing situation affects not only our domestic workers and landscapers but also our teachers, police and firemen who cannot afford to live in the area.

We have put together a dynamic panel of experts to discuss ways to help with these important issues. We want you to join us on Thursday, March 19th at the Water Club, 1261 Gulf of Mexico Drive on Longboat Key.  There will be free valet parking. The meeting will be be from10:00 to 11:30am; it is FREE and open to all!

Our panelists are true experts, and they include, Jon Thaxton, Vice President and Director of Policy & Advocacy of the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, Mark Vengroff, CEO and Managing Director of One Stop Housing, Mark Smith, County Commissioner and an architect, and Alan Parsons, Director of Planning, Zoning and Building for Longboat Key.  They will be able to identify the housing shortages that we face and the challenges with increasing the supply. They will also answer all our questions.

Please attend and join us to learn how we all can assist with increasing the supply of affordable and workforce housing in our area.
