Reconciliation Budget Slashes Cancer Research Funding to Pay for Tax Cuts and Parade
The House of Representatives has passed a Reconciliation Budget that includes deep cuts to the National Institutes of Health (NIH)—jeopardizing critical, cutting-edge cancer research. These funding reductions threaten to halt lifesaving projects and are already prompting top scientists to accept offers from Canada, Europe, and China.
The reason? To help fund massive tax cuts for billionaires and corporations, as well as a military parade scheduled for June 14 in Washington, D.C., which is projected to cost at least $40 million.
It’s hard to understand the logic behind these decisions. Why are we defunding scientific breakthroughs and surrendering our global leadership in medical research?
If this concerns you too, now is the time to act. Contact your senators and urge them to reject this short-sighted agenda:
Sen. Rick Scott: (202) 224-5274
Sen. Ashley Moody: (202) 224-3041
It’s not too late to make your voice heard.
