Last night, in the longest State of the Union ever, the only time that Trump talked about affordability was when he mocked it. Trump knows his policies created the cost-of-living crisis, and the American people watching tonight weren’t buying his lies.
Bottom line: Americans feel worse off than they did a year ago and think the country is on the wrong track. Nothing Trump said changes that.
HIGHER COSTS
· Trump’s plan to solve the affordability crisis is to replace income taxes with tariffs, which would be a massive shift of the tax burden away from the wealthy onto the backs of the working class.
· Here’s what Trump doesn’t want you to know: Americans are paying 3 to 4 times more because of Trump’s inflation and tariffs than whatever refund he’s promised them from the One Big Ugly Bill.
· Trump lied through his teeth on his economic record. He ignored how:
· Because of Trump’s inflation, Americans paid an estimated $2,120 more last year.
· Wage growth has stagnated, growing at the slowest rate since 2021.
· One in four unemployed Americans, 1.8 million in total, have been job searching for over half a year.
· Trump’s first year in office was the worst year for job growth since 2003, excluding full-blown recessions.
· In the mere five minutes Trump spent on health care, he claimed he is “confronting the rising costs of health care” and going to “end the wildly inflated costs of prescription drugs like never before.”
· Yet his “Great Healthcare Plan” won't offset premium spikes or lower drug costs, and it would send the ACA into a “death spiral.”
· His own administration has questioned whether his health care plans are “sustainable.”
· Every drug company that made deals with TrumpRx – a coupon website he slapped his name onto – has raised prices on hundreds of brand-name drugs.
MORE CORRUPTION
· In his speech, Trump talked at length about fraud — yet failed to mention that he and his family have raked in nearly $2.5 billion since he took office.
· The cost of Trump’s billionaire tax handout is 10 times higher than the cost of permanently extending the ACA tax credits that 20 million everyday Americans relied on.
· Trump also paid lip service to a ban on congressional stock trading, but forgot to mention that he killed a stock trading bill because it would rein in his own family’s grift and corruption.
DEMOCRATS KEEP WINNING
· Tonight, in the middle of Trump’s speech, voters in Pennsylvania and Maine overwhelmingly turned out to vote for Democrats — winning and overperforming in three special legislative elections.
· Since Trump was elected, Democrats have won or overperformed in 251 out of 281 key elections – a rate of nearly 90%.
Democrats have flipped 26 state legislative seats while Republicans have flipped zero.
