What is a precinct? (Sarasota County has 99)
A precinct is equivalent to a neighborhood. It’s the smallest political geographical unit established by the county for voting purposes. By law, for each 1,000 registered Democrats, there can be 2 Precinct Captains (aka Precinct Committeepersons), 1 male and 1 female.
What does a Precinct Captain Do?
The Precinct Committeeperson(PC) is the link between our local Democratic party and the voters in the precinct. PCs stay informed about political issues; attend the DEC monthly meetings and trainings; work to build a team of volunteers to contact precinct voters, in a variety of ways, before elections.
